Commonwealth Cup: Back the big fella to find his mojo at 20/1

This a flash article due to the short window of opportunity.

Big Mojo, who had two Royal Ascot entries, has been withdrawn from the King Charles III Stakes on the first day of the meeting.

He can still be backed at 20/1 for the Commonwealth Cup on the Friday, which we find highly appealing now that his target is clear. Rationale:

  • His six starts since debut have all been in Group races and he has acquitted himself admirably on every single occasion.

  • He was beaten only a length in the G1 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint at Del Mar last November

  • His sole start at Ascot, over course and distance in the key Ascot trial for this race, resulted in a victory. That was on his seasonal debut.

  • He was arguably the best horse in the G2 Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock last time out, having absolutely nowhere to go two furlongs out until the race was all but over.

We believe Big Mojo represents outstanding each-way value as one of the horses most likely to hit the frame. Ordinarily we would not recommend betting each-way at the five-day stage when more places will be offered following 48-hour declarations, but we envisage a price collapse here, and accept that short-price favourite Shadow of Light will be very difficult to beat for the win.

Recommendation: Back Big Mojo each-way at 20/1 with William Hill or 888 to win the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot on Friday 20 June.
