"You don't have to bet large amounts to get excitement in antepost racing. Small bets at large prices on futures markets give the punter a prolonged interest in a race for an affordable outlay. Risking large sums of money relative to one’s income and capital is a psychological burden as well as an action that can have devastating consequences. Keep it real and you'll keep it fun.”
The AntePoster
Responsible gambling
The AntePoster team urges all users of this site to gamble responsibly. Antepost betting involves an even higher degree of risk than betting in 48-hour or “non-runner no bet” (NRNB) markets (see below for more).
Price opportunities flagged up as attractive on this site may not turn out to be attractive at all by the day of the race, and acting on recommendations or ideas published on this site may impoverish as well as enrich. Specifically, site users are encouraged to:

-
Bet thoughtfully, not wildly or impulsively
-
Bet with sums that are wholly affordable
-
Keep it fun – or as the slogan goes, “When the fun stops – stop”
What are the specific antepost betting risks?

Antepost risk...
All betting on sporting outcomes involves risk – most obviously, that the outcome desired and wagered on will not come about. But the world of antepost / futures betting involves a whole extra layer of risk: namely that the horse in question may not even run in the race to which the wager relates.

means non-runner risk...
Unlike racing in mature, 48-hour or “non-runner no bet” markets, antepost bettors will not get back their stake if the horse they have bet on is injured or does not make the race for any other reason (change of plan by trainer/owner, withdrawn after playing up at the starting gates, etc.). Understanding this “non-runner risk” – which is borne entirely by the bettor – is absolutely vital.

compounded by time risk
Bettors considering a bet on a a horse long in advance of a race should also factor in the variable known as “time risk”. Quite clearly, the time risk will be greater for horse races priced up in the far-distant future, and weighing up this aspect is part of the challenge.
