Breeders Cup: AntePoster Results for Day 2

The second day of the Breeders Cup unfolded on Saturday. How did The AntePoster’s selections fare? An evening of two halves. Terrible start, kicking off with the Distaff in which both recommendations had already been scratched from the race with injury. Things improved after the Classic with Moira winning at a price, followed by races in which three selections were placed (including one at 25/1 and another at 33/1). Overall, as with Day 1, the overwhelming majority of selections went off at much lower price than the recommended price.

Distaff

Idiomatic (advised at 6/1 and then again at 11/2, withdrawn lame at 3/1) Awesome Result (advised at 14/1, withdrawn lame at 6/1) The AntePoster watched on with disbelief as first Idiomatic (72 hours before the race) and then Awesome Result (on the morning of the race) were declared “vet scratches” with leg issues.

Turf

Far Bridge (advised at 25/1, started 7/1)

Raced keenly behind the leader, throwing his head about as he clearly wanted a faster pace. He was a spent force when they hit the straight and fell back through the field. Finished 9th of 13.

Classic

Tapit Trice (advised at 25/1, started 31/1)

Held up in rear, made some late headway without ever threatening. Finished 6th of 14.

Arthur’s Ride (advised at 25/1, started 14/1)

Failed to get to the lead from his wide draw. Raced close to the pace but started struggling two furlongs out. Eased and finished 12th of 14.

Derma Sotogake (advised at 50/1, started 43/1)

Led, joined and being ridden from just over two furlongs out. Faded to finish 13th of 14.

Filly & Mare Turf

Moira (advised at 12/1, started 6/1)

Settled in midfield, made good progress to lead in last furlong, held on well from closers.  Finished 1st of 12.

War Like Goddess (advised at 18/1, started 5/1)

Settled in rear of midfield, moved up a few positions but couldn’t go through with effort in final furlong, beaten just over two lengths. Finished 5th of 12.

Sprint

Nakatomi (advised at 10/1, started 9/2)

Started slowly, dropped towards rear after two furlongs, made late progress without ever threatening leaders.  Finished 5th of 12.

Gun Pilot (advised at 33/1, started 15/1)

Ran in about sixth for most of the way, finished well to end up 4th of 12, thus ensuring a healthy e/w return at the recommended four places with Skybet.

Mile

Notable Speech (advised at 5/1, started 23/10 favourite)

Settled at rear of midfield, moved up and switched wide into home straight, finished well but the winner finished best of all. Finished 3rd of 10.

Dirt Mile

Mufasa (advised at 8/1, started 13/1)

Dropped into midfield from wide draw, raced keenly, started struggling some way out. Finished 11th of 14.

Post Time (advised at 25/1, started 8/1)

Waited with in rear, some progress but still 9th with 1.5 furlongs to go, finished very strongly to be 2nd of 13.

Skippylongstocking (advised at 16/1 as trading-play only, started 15/2, could be laid on the exchanges at around 10.0 in the run-up to the race)Ran quite well from the worst of the draw, wide almost all the way. Finished 6th of 13.
